  • Best Yota 4x4 years

Ok sold my beloved F350 and Cherokee, payed all my debt off including the wifes new car, buttttt need a beater to drive. I have decided to never owe the man againnnn and just pay cash for everything. LOL I have just enough cash to buy something decent so when it rains I dont have to ride the scooter. I would like to build up a bad ass Scrambler but all my deals have fallen thru on them.

    Options by rank

Yota 4x4 80's I guess. Best years? Also will they hold a four wheeler in back?

90's Full size Bronco and just buy a small trailer for the ATV

Scrambler still waiting for one of them to pan out. LOL I even found one with no drive train and thought a cummins would be nice in it. However the guy has flaked on me I think.

Orrrr who knows maybe another V8 Wrangler and a trailer.

Not opposed to an older gasser F350 4x4 crew either and see them cheap every now and again.

I've been pretty happy with my Bronco. It doesn't have a ton of interior room for gear but more than adequate if you only have 2 - 3 people. We took ours to CO with 3 of us and our gear for a week.

Late 90's to Early 2000's Tacomas are fun.

              1995-2004 Toyota Tacoma

Buy any of the above. Stay away from the 3.0 v6, the 3.4 is good to go. I would stay away from the carbed 22r (4banger) in the 85 and hold out for a 22re (fuel injected 4 banger)

You can do the earlier 4 runner with the removable top.

I know the hardcore guys used to prefer the 79-84 PU's as they still had solid axles up front. They could take a major beating. I had an 82' 4x4 PU for my first car, that little 22r in that sucker could take anything. The truck was so light, and with a 3" lift, it would go through anything. I had put a Weber hi perf. carb on it that pepped it up a bit too. Only prob. is with 33's on it, it would struggle to do 75 on the hwy.

I also had a 91' Toyota ExtCab PU with the 3.4 v6 in it, which did pretty well too. The IFS up front was pretty solid. I had a 4" ProComp lift (huge skid plate and all) on it and 33's. I don't think it was quite as fun or as capable offroad as the 82', but it did quite a bit better on the hwy and for hauling stuff.

The 79-85 had solid fronts ...

                          the 89-94 had a 3.0 v6 not the 3.4....

                          Just a little correction.

FYI, most hardcore toyota drivers like the 85 or the tacoma with a SFA conversion. Most are going with a taco with the conversion now.
