  • New daily, got some questions

Just picked up an 88 lx hatch 5.0. I love this car! I got a good price on because the overdrive is out.

First question, is it safe on the car to drive it at 55 mph at 3200rpm on the highway till I get it fixed?

How much generally for a rebuild or tranny swap?

Is it 20 or 25 years old for not having to do the smog inspection?

    Pics...

Cruise speed is fine. You will just use more gas and you may want to monitor trans temps if driving a good distance.

Saftey inspection is at 25 years.

    Clean LX.

Very clean hatch!! Yeah you will use a ton more gas, but should not hurt anything. Although id expect depending on how long you drive it like that, it could end up hurting the trans more..

Thanks! My work is 15 miles away, so that should be fine right?

Once the tranny issue is solved, I'll be bringing the 07 in to up the boost.

Nice Car! Mine had the very same issue when I got it back on the road! To have someone rebuild the AOD is around $1200. That was a quote from Mikes Trick Shift. I ended up rebuilding mine on my own, and spent around $400, including installing a shift kit in the valve body. If you do your research and take your time, it can be done in your garage.

I might look into that. I'll have to get the money together first.
