  • Anyone had an Aeromotive Pump Controller fail?

    I bought a 16302 (older red billet pump controller) from a fellow board member that was advertised to be in good working condition.

    Once wired up the units indicator lights shows the SWT (switched trigger) always active thus applies full power to the pump all the time.

    Obviously it is hard to test the rpm activation when the switched activation is always on, but the other issue is that the adjustment screw has no positive stops, from my experience with previous pump controllers they do not just infinitely spin, you turn left until it stops, then right until it stops (to decrease/increase the rpm threshold for the pump to go WOT).

    The unit does flash the PWT light (showing that it is getting a good RPM signal), but no matter how many times I turn the screw CCW I've never been able to get the indicator to show that it is being commanded to the higher speed.

    To me this unit sounds like a lost cause, I've contacted the seller and explained the problems and he has asked me what I want to do about it. I am guessing that since this unit is sealed there would be no way to get it repaired so I should just ask for a refund. Anyone experience similar problems? Right now it is just a expensive billet relay.

    Just get your money back. I'm running a Weldon 1100A inline pump and it doesn't require a controler. I've been running it for a couple of years now with no issues. You might want to look into one of those pumpes. I might sell mine to put a larger pump on my car so I can turn the boost up a lot more if your interested.

      Ya, I figure that is what I'll ask him for. What a PITA, I removed my relay setup, ran RPM wire through the car, extended pump wires, etc. just to find that this POS doesn't do what it is supposed to.

      Interested in an eliminator pump?

        Nope... I'm thinking a Magnafuel 750...

                I purchased that exact controller from a member on another website. With the car turned off (no key in the ignition) and all of the wires connected except the power wire (from battery). As soon as I connected the battery wire the damn pump would come on full blast. I double checked everything and came to the conclusion that the controller was busted. Aeromotive said these units are not repairable due to being potted in. My friend loaned me his controller (same model), I hooked it up, and everything has worked great since.

                  I really wasn't looking for one after that, but someone on the board with one PM'd me and offered it at a "great" price, I figured if it saved me a pump rebuild it'd be worth it. I now know better

                    Again, it's just overcomplication of a simple system.

                    I am relatively certain, manufuactures put some sort of "warning" on thier products, like, "Not intended for continuous use" even though it's durability tested for hundreds of hours at a time..

                    ..but maybe it ran out of spec'd temperature? Maybe the fuel temp got up to X amount, which was out of spec?

                    Real world, most cars can get by without a controller especially with large amounts of fuel in the tank. IMHO, a controller is just another part for the pump vendor to make money off of - and if pitched properly, it does just that.

                      I've seen a few a1000s burn up. That's why i run the controller. Although the buddy that loaned me his controller now runs his a1000 without it (i actually bought his like a rent to own plan) and it's been just fine for a few months. Summer temps will be the ultimate test.

                        "burning up" is largely subjective to how it's plumbed, and partially due to outside ambient temps.

                        A smallish return line won't lend it'self well to an efficient fuel system, and certainly won't help keep the fuel or pump cool.

                          Will running E85 keep the pump cooler? I've never had a problem with the pump over heating or anything but I was just wondering...
