  • 4.6 2v engine block failure ?s.

Friend if mine has a 03 Gt with bolt ons. Nothing special.

This weekend it started to misfire and it was the coil that was bad, replaced the coil today and went for a test drive. He said he goosed it to 4000rpm and all hell broke loose. This was about 2 blocks from his house.

Got the car back to the house, on jack stands and got to looking to see where the oil was blowing out and found it was the side bolts for the main caps on the drivers side. They were blown out and the block was cracked.

Theese blocks are pretty strong, so what in the hell could have happened?

Fuel puddle from misfire and detonation?

If the mains came out, I say it broke a crank.

After it blew out and oil everywhere it still drove home. And there isn't any holes or dents in the pan. We will see soon enough.

How the hell does a crank break all the sudden?

I was thinking it was related to the Misfire over time.

You should look into go-karts or used riding lawn mowers or something. At least they aren't as expensive to blow up.

No way you cracked an iron block on a bolt on n/a Mustang by just driving it hard. My bet is that the oil pump took a shit at some point during the drive and when he nailed it, the mains let go and split the block.
