  • Cam install question

I'm putting a cam in the 347 that I'm building. AFM sent two different dowels with the cam. Same diameter, just different length. With the long one in when I go to put the cam gear on the washer for the cam bolt comes into contact with the dowel. With the shorter one in it only goes into the cam gear about halfway. So my question is how to solve this issue? I was thinking that I could just notch my washer so that it didn't contact the dowel when it protrudes the cam gear? Any help would be great.

It just seems like it would be better to have more of that pin engaging the cam gear to me. You don't think that would matter?

The short one is used when you run the mechanical fuel pump with the early carbed motors . The fuel pump excentric has a foot that sits in the dowel hole to keep it centered so the dowel must be shorter to clear . If you are running an electric fuel pump just grind the dowel down to clear your washer . Having more dowel in the hole can't hurt .

That's what I figured, I just ended up notching the washer. I might have an 1/8th inch of protrusion from the cam retainer plate. Thanks for the info guys.

The center section on the gears is the same for single or double .
