  • Fuses in a 92 LX

Anybody know which fuses should normally have power to them when the car is off? I've got a 92 LX 5.0 and I'm trying to figure out what is causing my battery to drain when I go a few days without running it. I have a 6AL installed but I disconnected it before going through all the fuses and it seems about half of them light up with a test light.

Remove one of the battery terminals. Put a test light in series with the battery terminal.
Remove fuses on at a time to find the offending circuit. Remember leaving the door open etc. will trip the light!

When you say to put the test light in series, you mean to clip one of the test light to the battery, and the other to the battery cable that is disconnected?
When it comes to this stuff, I'm not very knowledgeable, at all.

If your vehicle is drawing power from the battery and all of the lights and other electrical components are off, you might have a parasitic battery drain (or draw). Luckily, you can usually find the cause of a parasitic draw yourself....

Check the vanity mirror lights. I have had more than one fox that had those drain the battery down. But yes, put a test light in between the cable and battey (preferbly the ground cable) and start pulling one fuse at a time till the light goes out and that will get you in the ballpark of what circuit is causing the drain.

Fuse 8 is the issue. If I hook up the test light as suggested, it stays on until I pull that fuse. According to the the diagram at veryuseful.com, its "courtesy lamps, key warning chime, fuel filler door, glove box lamp, engine light, clock and power windows".

I didn't realize there was a fuel filler door thing there. Any ideas?

Pull the neg battery cable...use a test light in series between the disconnected cable and the neg battery post. If the bulb on the test light lights up you have a drain...but be sure you are testing with the doors closed (so that you aren't drawing from the interior lights), key and everything else off...nothing connected to your power points and also bulb out of the hood light if you have one.

If you've confirmed everything is off but the bulb is still lit up, then start pulling fuses one at a time to see which fuse removal makes the light go out...if one makes it go out, then that is the circuit your draw is on.
