  • VW mechanics please help me!

I am 150 miles away from the nearest VW dealership, and my car is now starting to stall, and die or just not respond when i hit the accelerator when im driving down the roads.

The battery light turns on but i have a good battery/alternator.

My apprentice padawan mechanic knowledge tells me it might be, the fuel pump, but I can hear it right before we turn on the ignition, (as it builds pressure) I however dont know if the fuel relay might be f-ed up or the fuel filter as I do not know when was the last time it was replaced.

I hope its not the O2 sensor as I have no idea where it is.

Any help or tips will likely be appreciated.

Year, model, make? I know some of the newer bugs had coil pack issues.

not trying to be a smart ass but your location says arlington, and there is one off of collins and 20

kingjason: Pretty much every 1.8 or 1.8t had that problem (coil packs)

they are also know for there mass air flow sensors

and i dont think i have ever heard of a 02 sensor to cause those symptoms

Oh yes I completely forgot that fact. 2004 VW Jetta 2.0L 1984SOHC? I am not sure about the last part.

Also I am currently in Laredo stuck, because I cant move my car back to Arlington.

Battery light will always come on when it stalls out...Is your CEL on? Blinking? Is the MAF dirty? O2 sensors are installed in two locations on the Jetta 2.0 before the cat and after the cat. Doubt its that tho...Does the car studder when in park? Studder in drive?

Have you ever replaced the coilpack?

It studders or just shuts down in drive. Havent had it happen in park.

I haven't personally replaced the coilpack, since its only been a year since i started interest in amateur mechanics. I might have to check with the dealership.

Not to be a smart ass, but I'm sure there are shops in Laredo that can fix your problem. I'd check around and see what's available.

not just any shop can check since its a German car, the obdii ports are different. so just any shop probably wouldn't have the correct scanner plug...

but sounds to me that it could be the MAF sensor because thats what my little POS 1.8t did.

                just my $.02

There is only one German auto mechanic in Laredo, and he charges extra due to his "exclusivity" in Laredo, I just want it to run back to Dallas and take it to the shop. But if this fixes the issue, I have no more magazine subscription.

Clean the MAF! reset the ECU error by removing both battery cables. If its a hard fault it will come back within 40 miles. See if the VW guy there in Laredo will Vag-com the car...some people charge 20 bucks for it. Not being there and seeing the issue...I'm pissing in the wind saying it a MAF or coilpack.

The plugs are the same. Obd11 is an international standard that's used on pretty much everything except for I think bentleys and rolls. If anything their scanner will tell them a generic code.
