  • Finally getting the brakes dialed in....2-step

I was off half the day yesterday so I spent some time tweaking on my rear brakes. I still have the drums out back, and they've never worked very well even after changing the shoes and looking everything over. I realized the "self-adjuster" mechanism that's supposed to push the shoes outward wasn't adjusted correctly so with some trial and error I got it about as far out as they should be without too much pressure on the drum. I did a little TNT coming up on the footbrake to see if I could hold a little more rpm. I was able to get to 2600 rpm and 7psi on the 2-step on STREET TIRES! Woot! I'm guessing with a sticky tire and a burnout, 3000rpm and almost full boost isn't out of the question! Lower 60's here I come!

I need to do that! I've been looking at some nice Aerospace disc brake kit for my turd. Some dude on Corral said he could get it for $475 shipped

I might be able to get a little more out of it by biasing the brakes more to the rear now that I have a proportioning valve, but I'd be afraid that if I ever had to hit the brakes hard during a pass it would lock up the rears first which probably isn't a good idea! All of my times have been leaving with no more than about 2-3#'s. 6-7# might really wake up my short times. Best 60' has been a 1.61 previously.

I've come to the conclusion that my prostars front runners are unusable now. They're in the classifieds now.
