As I'm sure you all know, there are about 800,000 engine cleaning additives out there. 1 or 2 of which probably work. Which of the gas additives actually works? Which of the oil additives actually works? I'm looking for something that actually will clean gunk off the valves. Something that actually will work to clean out sludge. A buddy of mine used to work at a place called Technical Chemical Company. At this place, they mixed together all the chemicals for 99% of the stuff you see on the shelves at Autozone/Orielly's. Everything from brake parts cleaner, to brake fluid, to those dumb half-kerosene fuel additives.
According to him, there were only a couple of the engine cleaning additives that were not a gimmick. One was the technical chemical brand, which was johnsens. He said that he was the one that actually mixed the stuff, and all the rest of the fuel additives were at least half kerosene. Johnsens was the only one they made there, that was all active ingredient. I mean I know kerosene will do a little for a motor, but not as much as the good stuff.
But then, I've heard other people swear by RXP. I've even had good results out of it myself. I've had a few cars that wouldn't pass inspection, until they had ran through a tank of RXP. Nothing else done to them. So which ones do you think actually work? And what are your experiences with it?
