Good set of lowering shocks?

Looking to put some stiffer better quality shocks on the 83 F100 that will give it a better ride then the boaty, monroe shocks.

I'd go with a set of bilstein's on that truck. Monotube shocks are always an upgrade from twintubes like you were running, and monotubes are known for giving a little bit of stiffer ride, which is what you said you're looking for.

As for lowering, only thing I've heard is make sure the shock you are buying is in the operating range of the now lower vehicle. Everyone has been saying bilstiens for my lowered stang so there must be something to that. Maybe they just have a higher operating range? Perhaps someone can help us out with that?

Ok, its currently lowered 6" in the front and about 4" in the back. Front is the whole shabang with i beams and lowering springs, backs are just leaf spring lowering shackles. The shocks on it now are Monroe. The back is so boaty that I can push down on the bumper and let it rebound up and it rebounds a few times before it sets. Weak!

Man, sounds like you need some shocks that were actually designed for a much lower riding vehicle. You're definitely outside the normal operating range (or just barely in it so you'll be bottoming them out) of the normal shocks for that vehicle. Your spring rate is also a factor. You gotta find out which shocks will firm up the ride, for the spring rate that you have. Mismatched shocks and spring rates result in either too stiff a ride, or too floaty.

I'm with Mike , and call them to get a part # with the correct range . If it bounces a couple times the ones you hane are shot .

Tanner you should search through NLOC.net and Lightningrodder.com. the platform is the same as the gen 1 lightning so I'm sure you will get better answers there.
