  • Quick question regarding resetting codes on a car

2008 Grand Prix getting the P0411 code (improper air flow) I replaced the air injection pump and still get the damn code. Yes the pump is running. So I am thinking now it is the air check valve.

My question is this..... Since it only trips the code on "cold" start up. Can I reset the codes, drive it for about 80 miles and then take it to get inspected? Would this be enough driving time? TIA

I heard 40 miles or so is good, but, it needs a few drive cycles (on-off) from what I was told. So take it with a grain of salt

its going to be hit or miss getting enough of the monitors to reset in one drive cycle. Some have temp ranges or other things that can effect how long they take to reset.

Not a 100 percent on this, but I am pretty sure you can shut if off as many times as you want as long as the engine is warm and the light will not come on. I did it at least 3 times last sunday and it never came on. Started it Monday morning and Still no light. But she drove it to work and it came on.

Possible two cold starting cycles to trip the code?

2001 and up can have only one not ready. Make sure all air lines are free of leaks and routed properly. Warm veh up blow out code and drive but you will need a cheap code reader to check monitors

Last month I had a place reset the code on a 2001 Nissan Sentra. Drove it less than 20 miles then passed inspection at another place.

I have a code reader that reads and erases codes. I took the air check valve off and it was rusted shut. Doubt it will do any good, but I broke it free and worked the piston back and forth till it moved somewhat easily. Lubed it up good and put it back on.

All the hoses are in good shape and routed properly.

I will send her driving for about 75 miles this Saturday with a couple of shut offs and starts along the way. If the CEL is still off, I will have her go get it inspected. Thanks for your input.
