  • 1999 Astro Van

My dad has a Astro van with a fucked up problem. The van will run great for about 20 minutes and then just shut off. You can try to crank it but it wont do shit, it has to sit for a few minutes then it will start back up. He replaced the fuel pump twice(300 dollar fuel pump) and and the crank sensor and some other BS but its still doing the same thing. We took it to a shop to get their opinion and they say its the fuel pump. WTF??

What the fuck could it be?

Next time it fails, pull a plug and check spark, if thats not it put a little gas in the tb and see if it starts. I'd guess either coils or fuel pump relay.

+1 for fuel pump relay. had a similar issue on a 99 tahoe and that ended up being the issue.

You could also try just swapping the relay, its in the underhood fuse box

Coils were the first thing we thought but we checked and there is spark. We put a little gas in the TB like you said and it does start. I guess we will try to fuel pump relay next.
