I'm still working it! The car has a bunch of rusty spots all over it. This is just the first one too. I still have all the filler plates to make. I'd love to have a modern gas welder as this one is over 30 years old.

Are you welding them solid or are you spot welding them in. Just overlap an inch on each side and spot weld them in and put seam sealer over them.

what size wire you using? turn the heat down a little bit. Flux burns hotter than when welding with gas. Your basicly stick welding with wire.

.035 heat on lowest.

Yeah, the flux core does NOT agree with the stock metal, I tried it at first too and I was just blowing holes. Gas and a .025 mig wire did MUCH better.

.035 is to thick clearly. You need .023 and good welder with proper heat control. All things you already know I'm sure.

Also if your trying to weld to rust your swiming up shit creek with out a paddle. Rust will not weld. You need to get a 4 1/2" angle grinder and a wire cup brush and seriously clean all weld spots to bare metal

These belong to 4bangen, they are busted on the lips (repairable IMO). I know he said he would sell me all 4.

Ya I know, the problem with this car is that the side I clean up and grind down is all good but it's thin as shit. With the wrong welding set up and thin metal, it just blows it all away. I'm just spinning tires until I can get a smoother welder.
