So I'm concerned about the structural rigidity of the frame now. being a leaf spring car, I imagine that the weight of the car will cause to notches to be pivot points. This was a concern before I started cutting so it's not like I came to a "WTF" moment.

What do y'all think about if I added reinforcing plates to the opposite (inside rail) of the notches?

the way you're doing it has been done many, many times, but I too feel like it would compromise the rigidity and the strength of the frame rail itself. personally, this would of been my last option.

...as far as your idea about re-enforcing the inside of the frame rail, what if you were to build your own section of rail from rectangular tubing of a thicker gauge for strength and rigidity?

Just add some gussets inside that go side to side every few inches of bout same thickness of metal the frame is and weld it in then box the top in.

Or back half it at this point.

The only other option would be to run smaller tires or flare the fenders.

I'd be better off back halving it now! I still get to cut out the driver side tub I half way welded in and redo it! Great fun

Just put a 1/8th inch plate on the inside of the frame rail the full length of the notch or a few inches past and weld it on. then weld a 1 3/4 bar between the two rails like a cross member or a coil over shock mount. It would stiffin it up and tie it all together

I was just wondering about this thread.

So what exactly did you do? Looks like you replaced the original frame rail with some straight rectangular tubing. What about the arch over the rearend? Did you move it inward like the link I posted?
