I started my 5spd swap Friday afternoon but with the Decatur Swap Meet, catching a fever and the weather today, this is as far as I got.


I thought I would make a Big Giant Sword! But, not feasible.


I went the clutch cable direction so I had to make the quadrant. I could of bought one but I have less important things to spend $75 on like hookers and blow. I didn't have any material thick enough so I started by sketching and cutting out 2 pieces of 3/16 plate.







Tacked them together and started cleaning them up.




Drilled and tapped a hole for the cable retainer




And a clip to hold it all together. I still need to clean everything up.




And cut a groove in it for the cable.








Although welded on 3 sides, I wanted to make sure the seam in the groove didn't split so I cross drilled and welded the plated together.

I'm glad I pulled these pedals out of a sap free Maverick several years ago. I knew they would come in handy.











A couple new pads and installed.








And this is as far as I got Friday. Too bad I couldn't pull the AOD and replace with the stick.

Drilled a hole in the firewall for the clutch cable and installed it.

Well the weather finally let up and I had a couple hours this afternoon so lets continue.

Out with the old, in with the new. The poor little AOD didn't last long in a 4200# wagon so I pulled it today.

Hopefully the rain will hold out tomorrow and I can finish up.

I must be getting old. it took me nearly an hour to pull the driveshaft, exhaust, starter, crossmember, wiring , linkage, and transmission.






And the T-5 mocked up. Before it got dark, I was able to modify the crossmember and add the linkage for the parking brake.

Day two, T-5 install.

I had a few hours today so I tackled what I could.

All said and done, the T-5 was pulled and reinstalled 3 times to get everything fitted and fabricated. It would have been 2 but I found out the hard way that the power steering ram, which I had to rebuild, won't come out with the bell housing in place.


Here is where I left off, T-5 in place, need to pull it.




The PS Ram was leaking so it got new seals and hoses.






New seals and installed.








Next, cut a hole in my new floor.








And the shifter in position.

One last time, flywheel and clutch set installed.






Bolt up the bell housing.




And install the transmission, again.

I wanted to retain a stock look so I modified a 65/66 Mustang 3spd shifter to work with the T-5. I need to stop cutting these up, they are getting hard to find.


Cut the ends of the 3spd and T-5 shifter, weld it up, give it a little paint and bolt it on.










1st gear.




Neutral



3rd gear.... and so on.
