My dad repaired some fractures in the steering wheel and I was able to get it painted along with a couple small interior trim pieces this afternoon. We are trying to figure out why the brake lights and rear turn signals are not working but no luck yet. They started functioning after we installed a new headlight switch but now just a couple days later only the front works.

              Bad ground?

That steering wheel brings back memories.

That truck is coming along nicely. You guys are doing great work.

                Thanks.

I suspect it may be a grounding issue as well. It is strange the engine harness would function properly if it was ground related though.

I am in the process of adding another body to chassis ground to be sure.

So what kind of EFI system do you plan on using? OEM or aftermarket?

It's the OEM GM/Delphi system with a harness and PCM setup for standalone installation. It is already installed and working.

I'm interested in that. I'll be starting a project in the not to distant future. Are you using a factory OEM harness with a new PCM? Is it modified to work, or something you can purchase?

We bought a harness for this truck that was made to be used in a swap. The PCM is stock and can be programmed by anyone who has the software to tune GM stuff. I have a guy who does a mail order tune for really cheap, but if you want to maximize power obviously its best take it somewhere local and get a custom tune.

There are a few companies who make the harnesses. We have used PSI for the last two swaps. In the past I have modified stock truck harnesses on my own. It is time consuming but there is enough information out there that anyone can do it. It basically involves pulling out what you dont need and getting constant and switched power to everything through an aftermarket fuse panel and relay setup.

http://lt1swap.com/ This place will walk you through modifying a few versions of the GM harness.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the harness/computer cost, all in? Just trying to get a ballpark.

around $600 with a mail order tune

Things will get more expensive if you need stuff for the later motors.

Okay, that's not bad, roughly a 1/3rd the cost of some retail systems. I just need to price out what a cheap LS truck engine would sell for.

I have bought the truck motors for $300 complete with accessories and harness. You should not have a problem finding one for around $500.
