I disagree. Once you prove you can't follow the rules, you should lose those rights.

I agree. Whenever a cop lies on the stand, he should lose his badge and gun forever. Whenever he kicks in the wrong address, he should go to prison and lose his job and never touch another firearm. Let's do that.

The only time one should lose rights is if they are currently in prison. Prison is supposed to be a way to make you pay for crimes and rehabilitate you (at least this is what we are told). If you commit a crime so heinous that we don't want you to have all rights back, you should stay in prison forever. If it is not that heinous, or you have been rehabilitated and are ready to be out in the population, then you should get all rights back; voting, guns, etc, etc. If I can't trust you to own a gun after prison, then you should not have been released, because that means the problem has not been fixed. To me, it is a clear cut black and white situation; either you are ready to have all rights back and be a truly free man because you paid your debt, or you aren't. The current laws are basically saying "I kind of trust you to be out of prison, but I really don't". I am willing to suspend rights until parole is finished, after all, if you still have to take drug tests for the state and prove to a parole officer you are doing good for a year or two, that could still be a condition of parole in the type of rights restoration law I support.

And being a cop and having to deal with repeat offenders all the time, think about this and parole boards if this was the law. They would not release nearly as many people early on parole if they new they would be able to buy a gun soon. People would be serving full sentences, and I am betting sentencing for most of the serious crimes would end up being a lot more severe.

I believe in rehabilitation as much as I do the tooth fairy. If you do a gun related crime, then there's no way you should get that privilege back. Same with any violent felony.

I agree about the perjury part, but not the other. If you can determine who's fault it is for the wrong address bit, then punishment should be severe, but only for that person. You can't punish the whole team for one person's misinformation.

And I believe in cops held to the laws they enforce the same way I believe in the Easter Bunny. Cops who commit gun crimes (shooting animals in their owner's yard, shooting innocent citizens in their own yard) are not only not prohibited from ever owning a firearm again, often, they don't even have to do a day in jail.

In general? If an entire unit is sent to the wrong area, a colonel or higher gets pulled. If a team executing an unconstitutional no knock entry kicks in the wrong door, what happens to them? Who is held responsible for that?

There are ways to make prisons cheaper and more effective; the problem is most politicians in America do not have the balls to make it happen.

I am not a fan of exile. Why waste the manpower? There are a lot of really nasty jobs you could be using those convicts for.

Instead of exile, how about we take the ones on death row and the lifers, and maybe the repeat offenders, and bring back the Gladiator fights? Should be pretty easy to convert a few NFL stadiums into Gladiatorial arenas. You are on death row for murder? You get to fight to the death. Good enough to survive the games for 20 years, then good for you.
