I'm suggesting that most people who take this act are not in their right mind, in the most literal sense of the word. So with sanity out of control, little to no reasoning ability, and with a complete absence of any hope, it's no wonder this is the "choice" they make.
And on the original topic at hand; Anyone who's been on this board for any length of time knows exactly what the OP is referring to, myself included. With that said, I would also agree that the timing is yet... another bad choice.

I am lucky enough to never have faced that demon. I have given it a passing thought sometimes but focus on positives when I get that way. I have a whole lot more reasons to stick around then not. I have had a few friends do it though and it is always a big WHY?

I understand this question, but don't make yourself out to be a saint dude.
This thread is perfectly timed, it was a long time coming.

After going through the suicide of a family member (1984), I think there are stages people go through. A lot of it depends on the relationship you had with that person. I got to the "selfish" stage when I saw the shape he left his kids in. The guilt they feel to this day, would be unimagineable for most of us. My BIL was a healthy 38-year-old, and what he did ruined both his kids. I'm raising his grandson as we speak, because my niece is a ward of the state. He was a Viet Nam vet (2 tours with the Marines in '66/'67), and I feel like that had a lot to do with his demons.
We don't REALLY know what each of us are thinking or going through emotionally.
Regardless of the details, it's a sad, pitiful event that leaves survivors looking for answers.

It wouldn't matter when this thread came up, it would still be tied to Luis/Tony Scott simply because that's the analogy bring drawn. It's obvious and IMO a fair comparison for the sake of the subject matter. Whether I/we/anyone likes it or not, suicide is something that can never be quantified by sane & right-minded people. Survivors of their attempts all have differing reasons for the act: the successful ones never take their reasoning into the ground. "Suicide notes'' often leave more questions than answers for the ones the note is supposed to console. The actor knows that what they are doing isn't logical but does so anyways for whatever reasons they have deemed factual and (at the time) infallible. The actor is essentially asking for forgiveness of finality when they have to try to explain such a catastrophic action. The bereaved can't respond to a note: all they can do is draw conclusions from something that was written in a highly-charged emotional instance. There is hardly an solace in the act or the actor's explanation, but there is definitely a lot of conjecture and questions that MANY loved ones wish they could get an answer to.
I'll use Steve as an example for my last statement: he tried to end his life and was unsuccessful. Why did he not attempt to do it again as soon as he was able? He seems to have recanted his original opinion. If he had been successful he never would have had that chance.
People that kill themselves aren't square between the ears at the moment of truth. That's all I can draw from personal experience and that will never change. I'll never understand why someone can do it because, when they succeed, the dead tell no tales. I'll never get answers because I can't ask any questions. It's as simple as that. I pray that those who feel life is no longer worth continuing confide in someone before doing something irreversible and permanent.Originally posted by PGreenCobraI can't get over the fact that you get to go live the rest of your life, knowing that someone made a Halloween costume out of you.
