new beer thread: Shiner Ruby Redbird

picked up some of this and found it to be kind of delicious. They brewed it with grapefruits, and so has that flavor. The past couple years has been a smoked ale as the summer brew. guess too many people didn't like that.

yeah, I got over all over that a couple years ago. like I did Rahr back in 2006.

Every time I go to Sundance, I start at the saucer with a Trois Pistoles. Best way to start a night of drinking.

I picked a sixer up last night just for shits and giggles. I hate just about everything Shiner produces, so my expectations aren't too high. Any Shiner>Rahr though.

hate to break it to ya, but they kinda do. Their bock doesn't even taste like a bock really.

and to the post above, Rahr is by far better than Shiner stuff. Their beer actually has flavor, and they make more kinds of beers than they actually sell, as well, that are awesome. You only get to try them at the brewery.

I had a sixer this weekend and it was ok, not bad but kind of odd tasting, I wouldn't get it again though.

I'm a sucker and had to try it... I'll get more of it. light/clean summer brew. the "dirty bite" that most Shiner beers have is masked by the grapefruit and ginger so your brain says "hmm... that bite is SUPPOSED to be there"

I thought I'd like it at first, as the grapefruit was a nice change.

They put a bit too much ginger in it for my taste. I'll stick to Sam Adams for the "new unique" stuff, as it's usually pretty good.

Not a shiner or Shiner or Rahr fan. But I will give it a try.
