Any gas drilling or pipeline activities in your area? There is a shit load going over by the lake.

Probably not the source but you never know- lots of horizontal drilling and boring going on to run those massive pipelines to get it to market.

How exactly does a horizontal well thousands of feet underground possibly have an impact on city water?

            Drilling does not affect groundwater.

Actually, drilling and fracking for natural gas does affect water. the natural gas is below the water table, and when they frack the hole it cracks the substrate tween it and the water table.... mainly the chemicals they use for the fracking are the most dangerous... but there are tons of people who can actually light there tap water on fire right from the faucet

I never understood why people bitch about tap water. Water tastes like water to me no matter where I live.

Try the water in Abilene and you'll change your tune...

I've watched the documentary on HBO and read lots of articles, but I have yet to see one that actually gives an explanation to how a frac thousands of feet below the water table contaminates the water table. It seems to me that chemicals leaking from a frac pit would be more likely to contaminate well water. As far as the lighting water faucets thats some pretty crazy shit, and I would love for someone to do a scientific study beyond "oh they drilled a well and ruined my water, give me money"

I know lots of people that live near wells and rely on water wells for water and have never heard of any of them having an issue. My parents have two water wells at their house and probably 3 oil wells that were fractured under a 1/4 mile away from them and many more under a mile away without issue.

I see your point, i grew up in east texas and we had wells all over. we had great tap water and we had even better well water. And i watched the same HBo documentry.. it's just some scary stuff that we may be doing this to ourselves over natural gas.
even worse is the damage to the water table that mesquite trees cause..
