Cavalier, it has a Toyota engine (1996 era) in it and they get 33 - 35 mpg.

I'm creeping up on 250k and still has original everything on the car.

My friend has an 07. He has put 75K miles on it in three years with no problems. He gets 33MPG and drives like a bat out of hell.

I had a 2004 Mazda 3 hatch, 5spd for about 3.5 years and it was a great car. That said mpg was no where near that and a lot of reviews mentioned that the 2.3 engine wasn't all that great for fuel efficiency. Personally I would average around 25-27 with it. The new motor is probably much better, and I think the smaller 2.0 was better in the old body style if you are after mpg's.

            The one I am looking at is a 2005 with a 2.0

Yeah the 3.5's are beasts. They put those in the MazdaSpeeds and that with a turbo, they go fast.

Not fast enough. Ran a stock '11 Speed3 in my stock caliber SRT-4 on I20 and he didn't hang. Just saying. But yeah, those are rated at about 18/24 as far as mileage goes.

Though would be a bit front heavy.

Negative on the Toyota engine, as well.

No mine was an NA 2.3... In the old body style you have the 3, 3s and the Mazdaspeed3.

                        The 3 has a 2.0
The 3s came with an NA 2.3
The mazdaspeed has the directed injected turbo 2.3.

If you are looking at a 2005, the AC output is pretty weak in the 2004-2005 models. It works well enough most of the time but if the car sits out in the sun during the summer it just never really is able to cool down with it running full blast. Mazda refused to admit they under designed the system, yet they changed it in MY2006. This was my biggest complaint with the car.

I think he is thinking of the Geo Prizm, which is a Toyota Corolla.

I kinda figured that, but felt like being a dick They were also badged as Chevrolets later in life, which could explain add to the confusion.

I haz a mazdaspeed3. Nowhere near 35 mpg, but the standard 2.0 liter sedan might be. But the sedan is gay, you gotta get the wagon. In fact, I generally see about 29 mpg average cuz I can't keep my foot out of it. It's too much fun
