Deleted files can be recovered. Deleted and reformatted files all have dates of last activity... The company (if they have half a brain) can save the documentation of asking for certain things while the employee was still in a capacity of being employed: delete and reformat AFTER that date???

The data is encrypted and without the laptop which encrypted it the file is just an unreadable/openable file. The file was sensitive though, yes, but completely unusable.

I tried first with my prints, pulled the file on a thumb drive and tried to access in my personal laptop; no dice. I even tried to copy the operating system; still no dice. I actually did this when I first started doing the prints to see how safe the info was because I did not agree with the system nor us doing it in the first place.

I was privy to complete packets for over 500 SF85s and around 100 SF86s. Everything from the document itself to passport copies, dd214, DL, you name it I had a copy of it for over 600 folks that worked for us. I hated to do the job so I checked every angle before I started trying to prove it wasn't secure. I failed and ended up having to process their shit in the end.

In the end the laptop was turned over with their prints and names attached to the scan file and HQ was supposed to print them on the cards. Not sure what they ended up doing with it since I demob'd while on R&R and let the figure out where I left off. That last part was deliberate.....they could suck an egg.

No one is irreplaceable. Don't ever get it in your head that you are because that will spill over into your performance, and how people perceive you. You may be the absolute best at what you do but a company only needs good enough. No one wants a million dollar answer to a five dollar problem.

Ask anyone that has ever worked for, with or above me. Slacker doesn't exactly fit my work ethic. The simple fact is that some dickhead managers make the lives of those under them miserable, and there is often no recourse until it happens so often that finally the people above them see what's up and give them the boot. Unfortunately that leaves those who were fired or dealt with wrongfully S.O.L. on what may have been an otherwise great job.

If you treat your people fairly, and respectfully, there is a much better chance of getting that in return. If you fuck them around, you can bet they're going to fuck you when given the chance.

Crappy companies don't get the cream of the crop employees. Douche bosses are a fact of life. I've had them and I beat them into the ground (not literally, from a physical point of view), because if they try to fire me I generally am well known to their boss.

You're 100% right. In my industry, people getting shit on is a constant, unending way of life, yet somehow I manage to get through this life with a minimal amount of unethical bullshit impeding my way. I also don't let jerk offs above me push me around, play mind games and make life miserable. Many people do, and it shows when you have to work with people who are disgruntled at complete ineptitude.

The biggest company that I work for is filled with 10% people who are great at what they do, and 90% people who are great at passing the buck, trying to fuck the most productive workers out of their money, and hiding their own mistakes.

Most people think the company will go down if person X is removed, but it won't.

Even I try to gain as much "tribal" knowledge as possible, but someone would be able to figure it out.

X2. I heard this at my company. We shut down a subsidiary and transferred production to Texas. At high cost and job position bribery, we brought Larry, Mo and Curly over because they have been working with XYZ widgets and we won't be able to figure them out. Larry, Mo, Curly are over paid idiots.

Oh and yes, I can read a schematic and understand how XYZ widgets works and have to explain it to them.
