I try as much as possible to not ride near my house, worst drivers in DFW.

Dfw drivers were a big reason my street riding was very limited and short lived.

My best friend died doing basically the same thing, although he was riding closer to 80... It doesn't take a big mistake to get seriously hurt or killed on a bike, and the mistake doesn't have to be yours.

going to take more than some bad drivers to deter me from riding

I'm not sure if other riders are the same way, but for the three and a half years that a bike was my only transportation, I everywhere I drove I was paranoid and expected someone to run every red light, stop sign and yield intersection. I expected wildlife to run out in front of me on every highway. I'm not sure if it was my over the top caution of dumb luck, but I never had an accident or even a serious close call on my bike due to others. I wish I could say the same thing about my cars and trucks though.

I've thought about taking up riding, but instances such as this make me rethink my ideas....

one of my friends told me when I first started riding :

after an accident there is always one thing you can't change, it's how fast you were going.

point is , of course, change the speed you ride before you get in to a god damned accident!
I guess it's just the backwards way of saying it....

any ways if the guy had been going say 40 or 45mph, he might have had a chance to swerve. Not being there I don't know of course. But i promise you I have accomplished feats that seemed impossible on a street bike when some jackass does something you think will kill you.

also ride speeds that people expect in that area of road. people will look right at you when you're going way past the speed limit and pull out directly in front of you. Yes , it's because they're fucking stupid and can't determine the rate at which you're approaching.
Won't stop them from doing it though.
Think about it, if they're are people still driving around with Obama stickers on their car.... you might want to ride for the lowest common denominator.

I have seen and also been involved in accidents under the same scenario, people making a blind turn and just pulling on out when they couldn't see. I will never understand why people just seem to gun it at some point.

I'd probably own a bike if I didn't live in this area. People lose 50 IQ points when they get behind the wheel.
