The kid had a weapon in his hand. I have been pepper sprayed many of times, it isn't all that bad to be honest. It did its job, made him drop the board and calmed the situation down with no one being hurt.

Some of you are saying why would they be scared of a little 50lb kid. Chances are they may not be. Most likely they are worried about his own safety. The kid was throwing desks, tvs, and ripping the walls apart. Yelling come get me F***ers. The officers no doubt would have over powered him easily, but most likely would have hurt the kid.

        Proper diagnosis of this site?

          it is a lose-lose situation

except for the cop that got to blast that little shit with mace, that my friend is WINNING

          That is a nail-on-the-head description.

The cops had guns, why didn't they just shoot him?
I know you are going to the extreme Devil's advocate route, but officers are supposed to use the minimum amount of force necessary. When you need a tool to overcome a weapon (stick, chair, etc), you need a tool that covers distance. Spray is effective at covering that distance. A Taser is also effective, and would have been appropriate except my particular department has rules agaisnt using it against the young, old, pregnant, and other medical factors. Hell, it's like we have to make them have a physical before we can Tase them.

Matt, I think you're a smart guy, and honestly, I believe you are a very reasonable guy. If we were talking about an adult, hell, even a 14 year old, it would be a different story. This kid is 8 years old. Sure he's a little shit, but pepper spray? Seriously.

I'm not only blaming the cop. I'm blaming everyone involved for being such a bunch of faggots that adults weren't able to handle this situation without calling the cops.

I agree with the last part of your statement, but I don't see the problem really. Kid got what was coming to him. I'm sure he was warned that he was about to get sprayed. He just didn't give a fuck.

Like I said before, there's no way in hell I'd use anything but open hand control on an 8 year old. But, not everyone has the experience and abilities I do.

It might have been a female cop, it might have been a 400 lb donut munching lard ass. We don't have any other info on the officer(s) involved. This could have been solved by simply throwing a blanket over the kid and pinning him to the floor. The trick with a club/stick/any other distance weapon is to close that distance quickly so the weapon becomes ineffective. I've used that tactic before, and before the day of the TASER it almost got me stabbed by a crazy bitch with a large kitchen knife. You have to completely and accurately assess the situation before putting yourself at risk.

The problem with pepper spray/batons/Taser is that quite often the officer uses the tool as discipline instead of the intended use of appropriately subduing the offender.

We are required to announce "TASER! or SPRAY!" before using them.

If you want to create more fucking criminals, then treat people like this. I guarantee that this sort of punishment will make this little fuck worse than he would have been if he'd been disciplined in a reasonable manner.

I think he's already well on his way down that slippery slope. And yes, it starts at home. His lazy ass mom should have been more involved from the get-go.

Part #1. I agree 10000%. If you can't do the job, you shouldn't get the badge. I don't care how badly you wanted to be a cop when you were a kid. If you're 98 fucking lbs, you're not going to get the job done.

Part#2. Exactly my point. These kids get no punishment until one day this shit happens. They don't feel like they're being disciplined, because they don't know what it is. This kid will forever feel like he was assaulted by the big bad police, and it was everyone besides his fault that he fucked up.

When I was young, I had a bad temper. I didn't give a shit about the rules. I was disciplined by people who understood that avoiding the problem until it's out of control and then over reacting is not going to create good people.

Do you think that the first two times the cops talked to him they said, "hey, if you keep doing this, you're going to get into trouble"? He can call it whatever he wants, assualted by a cop, beaten, whatever. He was "about to" assault an entire class room, even if his intentions were not to because he was throwing a fit. What about the "what ifs"? I don't see why there is any sympathy for him. Yeah, his mom is a poor excuse of a mother, but there have been TWO TIMES this was brought up, and it is still an issue.

There are dogs that can learn sit after saying it a few times, what does a fucking human (regardless of age) need to be told 3 times to act like a human or atleast an 8 year and not a fucking lunatic. How many kids did you know when you were 8 that freightened a classroom and a teacher into another room? I grew up in a pretty shitty neighborhood and I never witnessed that.

BTW: LOL @ a 50lb kid "throwing" a 30 lb desk. Of course they're making it sound like he's king kong.

Fuck it, they should have just shot him. I mean it would have been reasonable, right? I mean this is the third strike.

SOME dogs can learn something after being shown a few times, but hundreds of thousands of dogs need much more repetition.
