I don't even own a black suit. I've got a navy suit with thin stripes, and a brown suit with thin stripes. I always wear a suit and tie to an interview, but I'm in sales so it's expected to put your best foot forward. I wouldn't wear anything less than a sport coat, slacks, and dress shirt with tie. Black is reserved for more formal settings, but there is no problem with wearing a black suit to an interview IMO. It's not like wearing a black suit will eliminate his chances. And as someone else mentioned, make sure you have nice shoes. It doesn't matter if you're in a $99 special, or a $3000 Armani suit. Bad shoes will fuck either one up equally.

Good point. Make sure you get them shined regularly... I hate idiots that have all scuffed up and faded dress shoes, just looks sloppy and lazy.

Nordstrom's (except the one at Stonebriar) has a full time shoe shine guy pretty much all working hours. It's 5 minutes and $2.50 a pair (I just usually give him a $5) and they come out sparkling. Do this every couple of weeks and it's amazing what 5 year old shoes will still look like.

Don't go cheap on shoes, it's noticed, I assure you.

I am going to have to do that. I have a nice pair of leather shoes that I only wear maybe once or twice a month. I have had them for about a year and haven't been shined yet. They look nice still but im sure it could use a nice shinning.

I've got several suits from Mens Warehouse and the quality is great. The house brand is Pronto Uomo and isn't bad, but you can get some great quality there.

FYI, an off the rack $2000 Armani suit will look worse than a tailored $200 Stafford suit from JCP.

I went to three different stores to find me a suit and my build is apparently impossible to find. I wish I paid $200 for my suit to say the least. :/

No suit is made to fit off the rack. I agree with everyone on tailoring...gotta be done. The nice shoe comments are also great advice.

Please wear proper dress socks as well. Personally if I'm wearing a tie clip it's slightly tilted as well.

Totally acceptable. At wakes and funerals.

Did you try Joseph A Bank? They aren't cheap, but the suits seem VERY nice for the money. And they have a large selection as well. Your build isn't that much different than mine.

I did not unfortunately. It is a nice suit (forgot the make) but just out of my price range for the frequency I wear suits. I also stand corrected, the Mens Wearhouse did have my size but they were all WAY out of my price range ie $800 - $1k.

You can definitely see the quality difference from the mens wearhouse to those side shops off the highway. Those little place are junk. I must have gone to 3-4 of those and you can see the quality difference like night and day.

You may want to check the Brooks Brothers outlets. They usually have a good selection and you can pick up a nice suit for ~$350-400. Tailoring, add $30ish for the pants and you're good.

I think the suit I have will work for just about any ocassions. Unless I get promoted to Executive anytime soon, one suit will have to suffice. Thanks though.

Add the Nordstrom Rack stores to that. You can catch some screaming deals on shoes and suits.

Mike - Don't bother with Joseph A Bank. They start at $800 IIRC, and go up from there. Great suits from what I can tell, but you're going to pay for them, and if you don't wear them that much, I don't blame you for not wanting to spend that.

If you want bad ass shoes for cheap, check out the Saks 5th off in Grapevine Mills mall. They usually have some really nice ones for 50-60% off. I have two pairs of Hugo Boss shoes that I have picked up there so far, both around $350 a pair new and I got them for something like $150.

The other thing is a watch. Get a nice one to wear. I'm not a materialistic person at all and love Wal-mart and cheap shit. But other people notice this stuff. And one of the best ways to sell people on anything, yourself included, is to appear to NOT need what you are asking for.

True, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have never worn a watch. Don't care to, probably never will. I've never had anyone make a comment about me not wearing one. That said, several of the guys I work with are watch guys, and have watches worth more than my car. While nobody has ever made a bad comment about me not wearing one, comments are definitely made about the guys that have the baller ass watches.
