Not at all. Just pointing out that the surface can hold up to even the most extreme abuse and still look good. If it can look good there, I'm sure it can survive normal household stuff.

Scotch guard the carpet really well. Mine has survived a couple of root beers and one actual beer. No evidence left whatsoever after blotting it all up.

Wood is the way to go. Tile hurts your feet and lower back after standing on it for more then 30 minutes.

I am having my countertops redone right now. We are doing silestone and Home Depot is installing them.

You can always put a rug or two down in areas where you are standing for longer periods of time.

What about the wood laminate, like Pergo, etc.

It is more acceptable I suppose. Since it has the wood look. I had it in an apartment once and it didn't bother me.

It would have to be a thick rug. Tile is like standing on concrete all day.

I hate carpet with a passion.... Nothing but a place to trap allergens

I like tile/stone in bathrooms and kitchens and wood in living and bedrooms

I like stained concrete as well, but only if it's done professionally. All of the at home jobs i've seen look like crap. I don't care how much "character" the little cracks and discolored areas give the room in your opinion, it looks like mudbutt.

I like carpet because it's comfortable and good for sound. I know it traps a lot of stuff, but I have made it this far and that hasn't killed me yet. Most people I know with wood floors and animals have to sweep that shit every single day to keep the dust bunnies and stuff up. I'd much rather vacuum twice a week. I like tile in the kicthen and bathrooms, and I do like the look of some wood floors, but I could never get rid of the carpet in the bedrooms or main living area.
