I am of the same opinion about carpet in our main family room just because of the coziness and lack of echos with the surround sound and such, but just HATE how much dog and cat hair gets into it, plus the stains from parties, kids, dogs, etc. *sigh*

I am having my countertops redone right now. We are doing silestone and Home Depot is installing them.

I hate carpet with a passion.... Nothing but a place to trap allergens
I like tile/stone in bathrooms and kitchens and wood in living and bedrooms
I like stained concrete as well, but only if it's done professionally. All of the at home jobs i've seen look like crap. I don't care how much "character" the little cracks and discolored areas give the room in your opinion, it looks like mudbutt.

I like carpet because it's comfortable and good for sound. I know it traps a lot of stuff, but I have made it this far and that hasn't killed me yet. Most people I know with wood floors and animals have to sweep that shit every single day to keep the dust bunnies and stuff up. I'd much rather vacuum twice a week. I like tile in the kicthen and bathrooms, and I do like the look of some wood floors, but I could never get rid of the carpet in the bedrooms or main living area.
