  • Camera question: Lumix GF2

Anyone shot with one of these? I know they are fairly new, but the wife wants one. Any likes/dislikes? Any info on first hand or "heard from a friend" experience appreciated.

Here's a link to the camera: Camera

Ive personally never shot with one of these and personally, for that price range, would much rather have a nice DSLR (like the Canon T1i).

But if your wife is dead set on one of the these "hybrid" type cameras they have a pretty decent rep as far a picture quality, exposure controls, etc. Here is pretty decent review that I found.

From what I gathered, seems like a solid camera. Features wise it is a stepup from the GF1, although seems more geared towards someone coming up from the normal "point and shoot" world vice a Photog/Enthusiast looking for a smaller camera with the same features of a DSLR. Is your wife into photography? Has she ever had a camera of this caliber?

My wife wants the features of a dslr without actually going as far as a dslr, and she's pretty deadset on this camera.

up to her... I played with that hybrid style camera at Fry's and didnt like it at all. Its awkward. Its like a point and shoot but with a dang lens that sticks out.

You cant put it in your pocket like you would a normal point and shoot.

DSLR's have decent auto settings if she wants quick and easy photos.

Is there a specific reason for that? Like 8MPG said, its not a typical point and shoot, cant (or shouldnt) stick it in your pocket, throw it in your purse, etc. If she wants DSLR features and her concern isnt with size I would highly recommend going DSLR. Thats just my two cents but....

If thats whats she wants then thats what she wants! lol. Seems like a solid camera with a multitude of features for a camera that size. It may not be a DSLR but picture quality will be perfectly fine and if she learns how to use the camera to its fullest extent she will love it. The one really good thing about a camera like this is if you travel and are uptight for room you get a lot of punch out of that little camera. The draw back is you have to pay to play, as Im sure you can tell by the price tag lol.

She said that's what she wants, and I'm not sure why she wot just get a dslr. I think it probably has something to do with the fact that she's a woman and she buys shit that's aesthetically pleasing. She believes form follows function, and to be honest if it will keep her happy and her nagging pointed in another direction, I'm willing to shell out the money.
