  • Any one ever installed an in ground basketball goal?

I had this bright idea to go look at the basketball goals at Academy. Ended up buying one for my son. Did not want a portable one. Been there done that. Never again. During bad weather you better lay that thing down on the ground or it will end up on a vehicle.

LOL, I was thinking that you simply dug a hole like you do a fence post and slap some cement in there, then throw the pole in there. I was wrong!

Fuck , got to dig a 36" deep hole x 24" round. Fill the hole thing up with cement, set your "J" bolts in the anchor plate in the cement and level it out. I feel like I am building a sky scraper.

I am amazed that a 6' x 8' fence panel that catches a shit load of wind takes a hell of a lot less work.

Oh well, at least I know it will not be falling on my vehicles even in the baddest storms. Plus my son and me will have something to do close to home

Been there done that. I think the hard part is filling the entire hollow pole with cement. It was pretty heavy the next day when we put it in the ground and then fillinig that hole with cement too. Its been through some bad storms and is still standing. Not to mention the time I backed up the Lightning into it and it didn't budge but, cost me a new rear bumper and brakets, haha!

You filled the pole with cement too? My instructions don't say anything about that. Don 't think I will take it to that extreme. On a side note, I bet it was one stout mofo

All the ones I've seen that are stable have cement inside the pole too.

Ok, I printed what I "thought" were the correct instructions off the internet. But I went a head and opened the box and pulled the actual instructions. (was trying to leave everything intact till I had all materials bought, so I would not have to worry about parts coming up missing in the next week or so)

Damn if it does not say to fill the freaking pole with cement.

Now I read on, and the instructions say I have to have 2 Capable adults too. I am screwed now.

Take it back, garage door hoop install is much easier!

Basketball hoops are usually attached to a metal pole or an apparatus that ensures the pole won't flip over. However, it is possible to mount a basketball backboard to a wall on the outside of your house or on the wall above your garage. Backboards are made of various materials.

I was about to post everyone I know that has an inground BBG has to have it filled with cement. The backboard acts like a windsail, that is one of the main reasons for filliing it with cement. Also, my BBG is adjustable, so little kids can enjoy it too. Only thing is when its this short grown men want to dunk and hang like Shaq, so you have to have it solid so it doesn't bend or break.
