  • Good deal on credit monitoring

Dont know if anyone monitors their credit or in the middle of fixing it but USAA has a Credit Monitoring Serive Premium for $12.50/month and you can pull your reports daily with it. Most places only let you do that once a month or once a quarter.

I also heard if you try to cancel they will give it to you for somewhere around $6/month.

Oh and you do not have to be military to join USAA which is what I thought. Just sign up for free and it will let you start the credit monitoring plan.

If you really wanna prevent identity theft.."freeze" your credit. It's silly to pay money every month for that service...If you freeze it, NO ONE can get credit in your name without "thawing" it. Read here:
Red Tape Chronicles has a good guide for how to set up a credit report freeze at each of the three major credit bureaus.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

x2, no need to monitor your credit report, freeze your credit then no account can be opened, unless you like being a slave to your lender.

Funny people will pay $12 a month, every month, instead of freezing it and paying just once.

OK credit monitoring is NOT intended to make sure you dont fall for identity theft and anyone who does use it for that is stupid. There are cheaper methods that will just send alerts with any changes or like mentioned just freeze your accounts.

I posted this for anyone, who like myself, if in the middle of repairing their credit. Freezing the 3 CB's will do NOTHING for my case. Sorry for trying to pass along a good deal.

I just pay the $13 a mo and I check my credit once a week. I can monitor my overall risk rating, check for new accounts, inquiries, etc. If you "freeze" your credit or put a fraud alert on it you will be denied credit until you call and unlock it and that could take days to take effect. Just my .02, USAA deal is decent and I highly recommend a monitoring service.

Freezing your credit reports only stops new accounts. All activities on current accounts are not effected.

Credit thawing can take up to 15 minutes over the phone with all three bureau.

Here is a link to the Clark Howard show and how easy it is to do. He discusses freezing and thawing regularly.

Oh, then freezing your credit would not effect you repairing your credit. Best way to fix your low credit score is to pay all your debt payments on time. Time heals all scores.

I have really screwed my credit score by paying off all my debt and not getting new debt.

Freezing my account might impair my ability to do soft pulls on my credit though along with being able to get updated FICO scores. I agree, freezing is a great way to avoid identity theft but not for me right now. This thread was just to pass along a good deal.

BTW, I currently have no debt other than my mortgage which is in perfect standing. Only things Im mostly trying to fix are some screw ups from a divorce years ago. Nothing a couple validation letters wont fix Im sure and once account that Im going to ask for a pay for delete. After all that then go ahead and bite the bullet and get some plastic to help further build up my report. I have a pretty good gameplan but I need to constantly monitor my reports for changes for the next few months.
