  • You may be owed a several thousand $ refund on your mortgage

I got a letter saying this today, on the original mortgage with my house when I bought it new in 05.

It doesn't go into specifics, just says I may have been overcharged or miscalculated against.

And then it gives me a number to their mortgage auditing and refund service.

Do you think this is legit? Or just spam trying to sell me on some other crap?

The only reason I question it is because I've never received one before, and I've refi'd my house a couple times and only received something on this one loan.

Probably spam. Did you google the number? Is there a return address? What's the name of the company that sent you the letter? Do a search for said company on ripoffreport.com

Thanks for the input, all they listed on the letter was a phone number, which is pretty suspicious. I found this thread http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-259-0031

      I'll pass.

I got one awhile back, too. It's a scam.

I would provide them with a bunch of fake info and let them run with it.

I wish! Then I would be getting back millions, not thousands.

Best bet is to call your mortgage company using the number you have from your loan paperwork, then ask them about it.

This. I don't know of ANY banks going out searching for loans they want to modify or people they want to pay. That's money out of their pocket - they're not going to spend the marketing money to bring people in to pay out more money.
