I-10 is fun the first time, but I would avoid it.

You've been to Galveston, have you driven south down the coast? Weather and sea weed are day to day, but I drive out to Surfside and Bryan beach once a year. Good size beaches you can drive on and pick out a spot for the family to hang out. It's a day trip and cheap, depending on your budget, even do some fishing.

          Anna Maria Island

          Siesta Key

IMO these are the 2 best beaches in FL if you want quiet, family friendly, white sand & blue water, etc. Granted there is not a lot to do around there... some shopping at Siesta... 1 restaurant on the beach at Anna Maria... about it. You would only be 2.5 hours from Disney, 1 hour from Tampa, 4 hours from West Palm.

Forrest is correct. Louisiana is a shithole. They may hold you for days trying to figure out how to classify you.

Here is a list of Florida beaches. http://goflorida.about.com/cs/florid...nude_guide.htm

Another vote for Destin, FL. We drove it...last year I think during spring break. And "stopping for the night"?? You'll never get there, lol. Just drive non-stop!

I'm not sure how it is in the summer. We went during spring break last year and we practically had the beach to ourselves. All the party animals go to the other "party" type beaches in FL.

You might want to look into Gulf Shores, Alabama. IMHO, it's as nice as most of Florida beaches, not as crazy crowds/more kid friendly, is closer and I believe is less expensive. We went year before last and love it, so we're going back in August.

Another vote for Destin, or Pensacola Beach (as long as it's not on Memorial Day). Sand almost as white as sugar, warm and clear water, and reasonable costs. I lived in Pensacola for 3 years and frequented that whole stretch of the coast.

If you're driving, then Destin/Pensacola or little futher in is Panama City Beach, they are the same distance as SPI (Valley area). Vey nice area and family friendly, plenty of places to stay, lots of things for the kids to do. I would recommned getting a condo or house, this is what we did because there were five if us. They come loaded, washer/dryer, stocked kitchen, bigger rooms and usually a few restrooms.

Destin in northern florida. In southern florida Jupiter/Juno beach or Boca raton. Forget miami and Ft lauderdale for a family beach.

Naples, FL a 2nd vote. It's beautiful and very kid friendly. Also to watch the sunset is an amazing site to see there.
