Anyone know some good photography websites? Just getting into it.

Also, anyone know a good place for some used lenses? The damn things are more expensive than the camera itself. Pawn shops?

What are you shooting with? and what are you looking for out of a photography site?

Lenses generally hold value pretty well. I shop the following for all my camera gear...(in no particular order)

      Frys (online and in-store)
      Newegg
      Costco
      Amazon
      --Then all the photography shops.

What particular camera are you shopping for at this time?

Just picked up a Nikon D5000... really hoping to find a Sigma f2.8 70-200. Going back to Africa in the beginning of next hear. Hoping to just learn how to use the camera pretty well before then.

Couple of places for videos I have found are:
Froknowsphoto.com (goofy guy but lots of great info)
phototips.biz (guy has a good podcast with Lightroom/Photoshop vidoes as well)

What am I trying to get out of it? I dunno honestly...just good knowledge.

Picking up a used Nikon 55-200 VR lens this week from my cousin's friend. Figure $100 is a good deal and will get me started until I find a good deal on a 2.8 lens

Best advice for info on shooting and such for Nikons would be to visit these forums....

          www.nikonians.org & www.nikoncafe.com

Also I can't stress this enough, read through your users manual. Soo many people just toss it aside and they don't realize how much it'll explain how the camera settings work.

I've bought a couple used lenses off ebay recently for a decent price, was the same if not a bit cheaper than amazon as well. Most recent was a SIGMA 10-20mm F4-5.6 for our Nikon D40 cost me $390.

If you want to try a lens before you buy it then you can rent them. I recommend these two sites...

              www.lensprotogo.com & www.lensrentals.com

Friendly Nikon camera forums since 2005

Most photo forums have for sale sections, but you have to meet criteria to buy/sell.

Pro grade lenses are expensive because they will last for 5x the life of the body. I used a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 lens that was over 20 years old that worked like new.

Thanks guys... Im reading as much as I can. Really hoping to score a 2.8 lens so I can add a TC on it later and get some more zoom without losing much aperture. Luckily I have plenty of time to find a good deal

                    I frequent

which is technically a Canon forum but it is kind of like here, you dont actually have to own a Mustang to be here lol. Its the best photo forum I have seen and there is a ton of useful information.

As far as lenses are concerned everyone has already given you good options. I also keep an eye out on Craigslist, but as with anything else on craiglist, becareful!! The D5000 is a great camera if you are starting out.

Depending on the TC you will lose anywhere from one full stop to two.

                        With a 1.4x TC, a 2.8 lens becomes a 4.0.

thats what I have read...Im hoping a 1.4x will be enough. If my math is right:

Sigma 200mm x 1.4TC x 1.5crop sensor = 420mm which should be a great zoom out doing wildlife photography and it should retain the f4.0. Cant touch a lens like that for the money.

That crop sensor number is witchcraft. It doesn't bring you any closer, it just crops the frame to make it seem closer. The IQ isn't any better, conversely, it is not as good.
