  • One day in San Francisco

I've never been to San Francisco so I'm looking for input from people that have been and can tell me if there's anything that's a 'must see' while in town for one day.

I get in around 9am on a Thursday and will be Leaving Friday morning for the weekend in Napa/Sonoma. I'm staying near Market & Montgomery streets. I have a rental car so getting around any long distances isn't an issue.

    Thanks

Alcatraz is cool, Fisherman's Wharf is also interesting, and make sure you eat some authentic Sourdough bread at Boudin's (http://www.boudinbakery.com/)

Spend most of your day at Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. There is a lot of stuff to eat and do, but it is a little touristy.

Drive across both bridges, because that's a bucket list deal. Enjoy your trip through the city while driving from one to the other. Stop off at Treasure Island while driving the Bay Bridge, it's a military installation now.

Alcatraz is a day trip all by itself, don't waste your time with it if you only have one day.

There is a ton of stuff to see and do in SF. It's one of the best cities I've travelled to. Grab a tourism guide when you get there to find things that interest you.

That's what I'm looking for, thanks Danny. I figured Alactraz would drain my day so I will hold off on it. I didn't think to just drive the bridges, good call.

Also not mentioned is Lombard street which is one crooked street, and hit up China town if time permits.

I grew up there, but never did the tourist stuff. Check out Sausalito, pier 39, ghiradeli square right off the warf( there's an In and Out there). Lombard, market and market square. Alcatraz, mmmm you prob need to make reservations now. If you don't you prob want to get in line realy early, I've hear of 2 day waits to get over there.. Off of broadway there are some cool bars/cafes/resturants.

Berkley is a must, that place is the shit and you can take the Bart train for under 3$. Last time I was there, we saw a topless mid
50's hippy chick walking down the stree playing guitar, lol. Good pizza @ fat slice or Blondies in berkley.

Half moon bay has a beautiful beach and is only around 30min for SF up the coast.
SF gate park is a badass place to have a picnic and deff, ride the trollies from the pier.
Boudins metioned about is famous for sourdough and aliotos is prob the best seafood place I've ever been. Its behind the pier by boudins, on the water.

I'm sure I'll think of some more and I'll update when I do.

I'll second the Alioto's suggestion. Lombard St is pretty cool as well, but kind of a pain in the ass to get to since all the streets are one-way in that area. I drove down it like five times one night, lol.

Sounds good to me, I was looking for a place to eat for lunch and that will work great when I'm out acting like a Japanese tourist.

All of these, walk through China Town, don't drive, some very interesting things in that section of town.

Is it anything like China Town in NYC?

"Hey rady, hey nice rady! You rike Burbrarry, CoCo Chanerr, Rooey Whitton?"

I'll definitely be strolling through there.

No its not, at least not the the last time I was there. It really is more of a town (area) of China. I was making my way through there and I saw a marching band coming through, I was like cool what school is that? My friend Sal was like its a funeral, it was little wierd but cool nonetheless. We parked at the old Transamerica buiding and walked from there.
