I guess I've just been lucky and never had a problem with vehicles or other items on ebay (both buying and selling).
x2
Over 200 transactions, including buying/selling vehicles. I also have My eBay settings to block people with negative feedback, outside U.S., newbies, etc... And I exercise common sense.
And I only buy/sell using PayPal and only to a verified address, so I'm covered against fraud. Had only one case where someone bought an item from me from me and claimed they never received it. The buyer filed a fraud claim with PayPal against me. I just emailed back the PayPal rep. the UPS tracking number. About three days later it was ruled in my favor and the claim dispute was closed. Also, it didn't help buyer's case when the dumb ass left me a + feedback saying A++ while the claim was in dispute.
Well it pays to be nice. I called him and explained that I was sorry for the circumstance but that I was stuck in the middle. He decided to go ahead and buy the car. I will see if I actually get the money.
If not.... we might need to call and ask for chuck.
Look at your add again. It clearly states don't bid if you don't plan on buying. All sales are final. Be rude to that guy not your fault he changed his mind cause his wife beat his a$$. Lol.
Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do to make someone pay.
Ebay has really gone down hill with their stupid ass feedback rules and ever increasing fees. I use to sell a lot of parts on there but now, I rarely ever buy anything from Ebay and never sell anything on there.

I remember when things were cheaper on ebay.
For example last week... Ipad (original) 399 at the store...on ebay it was 400-500.
I'm dealing with some kid that keeps sending me lowball offers. I tell him no and receive an email asking for a better price. I've never had a problem with getting paid fwiw.
I just sold a deerskin leather coat for 3 grand on ebay that i paid 20 bucks for. I LOVE ebay for the broad audience, but think that the ebay/paypal fees are legal robbery.

I did the same with some Sterling silver candlesticks I picked up from a yard sale for $5 each. I sold all four as a lot for $320. The lady sent me a Postal money order too.
Yep just what I was thinking in my head. Lol. Like you said u had to of known she was sick before u bid because he stated she had cancer they just didn't know how bad. Well I'm sorry but if my wife had cancer I would always expect the worse. Especially before I bid that much on a car with out seeing it. Wife laid into him hard and that is his way to try to get out of paying on what he bids on.
Simple fact is that he knew she had cancer, regardless of the severity, and still placed a bid. He should pay

I'd run my junk through a waffle iron, if it makes you more "comfortable". LOL!
It sounds like an awful situation your wife is in. Why don't you make her short time left on earth cruising around in this bitchin' Mustang that you already committed to buy.
Respectfully submitted,
The guy you owe
lmfao!
