Burglary scumbags get caught in stolen car...
A 15-year-old boy driving a stolen car was shot and wounded early Friday by a Mesquite police officer after a short chase.
Shortly after 3 a.m., the officer attempted to stop the 1990 Lincoln sedan the teen was driving for a minor traffic violation. The teen fled, and the officer pursued the car until it stopped in an alley near the 2700 block of Franklin Drive.
When the officer got out, the suspect rammed his squad car, police said. The officer then fired several shots into the vehicle, striking the suspect in the shoulder. A 13-year-old passenger in the car was not injured.
The officer was not injured, said Lt. Bill Hedgpeth, a Mesquite police spokesman. He was placed on one-day special assignment while the shooting is investigated.
The suspect was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where he was treated and released into police custody. The passenger is also in custody. Neither was identified because they are minors.
The car was recently stolen in Dallas, police said, and property from a car burglary was found in the vehicle.
