  • Salvage titled mustangs

Buddy at work his a pending trade deal for his beeter 04 dodge ram (4.7L with 5 spd manual). Person wants to trade a 87 bare bones wrangler (halfway rock crawler job) with a 6cyl and manual, and a 91 mustang GT. The GT is pretty stock from what i have seen minus a 70mm throttle body and air filter. It has a green title (i assume salvage). My question is, how much will a salvage titled GT go for? It looks average in the pics, and has a T5 new clutch. This is a vague question i know.

I have always heard Salvaged titled cars are worth HALF of market value.

If Im not mistaken, a salvage title vehicle has to be repaired with reciepts then go through all the BS of getting the titled status'd "rebuilt". I had a real nice 87 GT vert years ago that was salvage and I couldnt register it to save my ass. It was a flood recovery though with no real damage. I ended up selling it to a buddy who gave the title to a title company and paid them a nice chunk of money and got it changed so he could register it.

As far as value, lowball the hell out of it. Its not easy to unload salvage cars unless its just a smoking deal.

87 was also one of the worst Jeeps ever built. Some kind of weird mid year and a horrible transmission.

It won't be worth much, but then again, fox bodies aren't really worth that much unless they're super clean with low miles anyways.

You are correct. If the title is salvage, then you have to take the car to a professional repair shop and get it rebuilt. If it's already rebuilt, then no big deal. Salvage is a raging pain in the ass to deal with.

A salvage title should be pink until its retitled and the proper paper work has been filled out. Once this happens, the title comes back blue with the remarks salvage on it. I haven't seen any "green" titles before.

It just depends on the car. Some insurance companies will try to total them if the hood is barely even tweaked (thinking the whole core support needs to be removed). I bought a nice SSP like that, and the owner didn't fight the insurance company on it. All it has is the front of the hood dented in, and it has a salvage title. I'd pay more for it than for some of these other coupes running around asking $4,000. Just check out the car really well.

Salvage titles haven't been green since 2005 (actually they were called Salvage Certificates back then). So maybe your "assumption" is wrong.

You sure it's not a title from a different state? They all look different.
