I've been to a bar by myself many of times. Especially when i travel. I have found that Hotel bars are the way to go if you are going to be by yourself. Everyone else in there is too.

I do it quite often, was at Texas Roadhouse last night just people watching. Seeing a dude in a kilt walk by and talking to the bartenders about the naggers who just left.

I only go to bars when I'm on travel and it's only to military towns. You find some VERY interesting people in those places.

The last time I went to a bar alone, a random guy started talking to me. He ended up being an insurance adjuster who had just switched companies and was talking about some of the nastier wrecks he'd worked at his previous company. One of which was a wreck I was involved in. He ended up telling me some rather interesting things, not knowing that I was the other party involved. LOL

Depends on the bar, if it's more of a pub with a wall of draft beers or has lots of TVs then no problem at all. If it's more of a dive bar with pool tables and 3 kinds of beer and 2 of them are light then it'd suck.

If you really want to drink and feel self conscious just head to a topless club with a fist full of $20s, everyone should be staring at boobs, not you.

Personally I hit the Saucer by myself all the time. The seating arrangement there makes it impossible not to talk to other people. That and conversation is easy when you have a shared interest, beer in this case. The beer servers are also nice to look at!

I used to live in Seattle for 8mo before my family was able to relo due to my house in Austin not selling. I frequented an upscale restaurant bar often for happy hour and actually closed some business and got a new/better gig out of it.

When traveling I'll go to a bar often by myself. I think you pointed out the flaw in your equation with "I'm shy".

I spent this evening in a bar by myself doing work.

While sitting there an Australian guy looks over my shoulder and comments on the drawing I'm reviewing. It's for a big, high visibility venture that's getting off the ground globally thanks to my group. Turns out he's handling another, non engineering, part of this thing and he had never seen the actual product in question.

Long story short, I am now going to be the special guest speaker at the worldwide hq tomorrow to an international group from australia, Singapore, etc covering how my group helps enable and support our worldwide oil and gas business.

I would never have talked to this guy if I were with a group of people. Bars by yourself kick ass.

I watched some (decent looking) cougars hunting these young pvts or whatever they were. it was crazy. They kept asking the bar tender to send drinks and the drinks just kept piling up in front of the dude. After the dudes left the old chicks went to other ones. Probably someone's wives :shock:

When I was single I had no problems going to a bar or a restruant bar by myself. BWW in bossier on the river was a regular Sunday at noon thing for me. For dinner some nights i would go hit up Applebees in bossier since it was two blocks from my apartment. I knew all the wait staff and bartenders. I met some intersting people doing that. When I lived in Arlington/Hurst area i used to grab some chinese food and go sit down at Pitchers and watch everyone roll in. Again I knew the bartender and owner.

The best part of business trips was hitting the hotel bar after the conference and meeting new folks. Now that I travel by myself back and forth from Dubai several times a year I enjoy drinks and people watching at a few favorite airport bars.
