  • 2007 Ford F250 Super Crew FX4

A friend of my dad has a 2007 Ford F250 Super Crew FX4 Diesel with 122500 miles. The truck is super clean. He works in the oil industry & travels a lot. He wants to purchase a New truck really soon & said he would sell it to someone he knows for $15000.00. Is this a good price??? I own a 2001 Ford F150 Super Crew Lariat 4X4 Gas & thought about selling it & buying his truck. I don't know anything about Diesel trucks so any help would be Great!

    Thanks!!!

6.0 out of warranty? You should probably pass. If there's an extended warranty on the engine, it might be worth it. However, if not, I would pass.

Yeah, the coolant and oil seems to have problems mixing on those engines. we did it to our shop truck a while back, stranded James in New Jersey for quite some time.

I think there are mods guys do to those engines to make them more reliable, not 7.3 or Cummins reliable, but better. Namely a EGR cooler delete and head studs. The cooler delete is cheap and kinda easy, head studs on the other hand cost a way too much, like 3600 installed.

Also consider that most of the horror stories are about the earlier engines.

It might be a good truck and 15000 for a 2007 sounds bad ass to me but you might wanna take it to a shop that specializes in diesel performance or powerstrokes and they might be able to tell you if its on the verge of self destruction or doing fine.

I always said you couldn't give me one out of warranty, but that is a cheap price.

Injectors and head gaskets are mighty expensive though, so I would go into it knowing you need to put some money away for those repairs. It is also at a age where ball joints, brakes, and hub assemblies will all need replacing. The parts to do all this will be a little over a grand, and take a full day of work if your handy.

The EGR/cooler delete and head studs will go a long way. If not worked too hard I don't see it being a problem with head gaskets. I sold a 04 with 160k miles last year that hadn't blown the headgaskets, but it had a EGR cooler replaced and most all the injectors. The 05 I sold last month had two sets of head gaskets and one head, 15 injectors, and egr/cooler in only 140k miles. Depends who is driving them.

I'd buy that truck and when it shits the bed I'd put a 24 valve in it.
