Dave you should send the same info to the newest guy on the team, see if he knows how to find out the floor.

And it's classified, but let's just say he has never done more than what was absolutely required.
Yeah it would have saved more time if I just told him. I guess I should have done that and talked with him afterwards."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson

When I was a desktop tech I complained about his low performance, poor response time, efforts in troubleshooting...my boss told me, "David, you need to have people like that on the team." and he left it at that. I think he was referring to the bonus/raise part. This guy will be around until he leaves or just stops showing up for work.
He knew he pissed me off earlier he has been nice to me all day, I'm going to address it in the next team meeting. I'll pull the docs I give to the new people together and change a few things and re-distribute them to everyone so everyone is one the same page about where everything is.
When we moved offices in 2009, he wasn't here for the majority of the grunt work, and when he was here - we had to go back and clean up after him. This guy is pushing 50 years old, and he just doesn't care anymore. He is smart - he is smart enough to know where he can be lazy, and when not to be lazy - if that makes any sense.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I've got a great team of 17 people across 3 continents and only 1 of them do I want to kick to the curb due to repeated screw ups and laziness, but I don't have the authority. My problem is with other teams that are extraordinarily lazy/stupid. Whatever it is, its a whole lot of one and a little of the other.

Bonus or raise time it's easy, because there is the bell curve..and well he helps makes it easy to decide who isn't getting anything.

Like most workplaces mine rewards them.
We have one lady who does bust ass. She is fast as shit, but she fucks up and cheats her numbers. The management sees it, and does nothing.
As long as the work gets done who cares. That is the motto the employees on the floor see.
The one that gets me the most is the ones that cant even remember to fucking punch in the time clock, yet they keep giving them promotions and stacking more shit on their plate. They have to be reminded of everything. It takes them twice as long accomplish the task.
What used to take me 2 hours, she can make a 8 hour day out of it.
Every work place has this. Its nothing new, and unless you work alone it will always be.
I really enjoyed it when i had a good team under me. Ones that could think for themselves and do a good job. Of course you cant hold them down and you promote them, or they leave.
