Nah, I'm just fucking around. I think the gov't should mind its own business but I sorta agree with you that smoking around non-smokers is a little inconsiderate. I personally don't smoke around kids and try to be cognizant of non-smokers around me. Still, and honestly, being around drinkers is truly one of the most annoying things in the world.

I missed the whole bar portion of this earlier, so my argument in here is moot. Regardless, this really isn't the government's business.

And my god, you couldn't be more spot on about the drinkers.

You've never seen a barfight? You don't think the booze had a little to do with it?

Again, that's a social repercussion and bar fights aren't essentially resultant outcomes from every instance of alcohol consumption.

...and not every person that inhales second-hand smoke is going to get lung-cancer, see spots, and/or throw up. You already retracted your argument about bars. Other than concerts in bars, I've never been to an indoor show where smoking was allowed.

Not getting lung cancer or a migraine as evidence of no adverse health effects is a complete non-sequitur.

And smoking not being allowed at an indoor show doesn't seem to have ever stopped smokers in my experience (laws against throwing their butts out the window hasn't either), but my point extends further than that: restaurants and the sort fall under the same guise.

I can understand restaurants. I've never been to a non-bar concert where the smoke was forming a cloud or over-whelming by any means. Yeah, maybe 1 out of every 100 people have a lit cigarette or joint.

                  <--- Ex smoker.

                  Bars- Of course.
Restaurants- Not unless it is in a separate/ventilated area.

However on that note, smoking is a nasty nasty habit. All you who smoke smell like you licked a dog's anal glands. Stop being an addict.

Went to a bar years ago in California where they had banned smoking in bars so everyone went to the patio to smoke. I must say it did not seem to hurt business because the place was packed. Plus it was nice being able to go home not smelling like an ash tray and not having my eyes burning and watering like a mofo from all the smoke.

Or be at a stop light and watch the guy in front of you open his car door and empty his ash tray out on the road.

                      Disgusting.

                      • Again, only in America do we have to protect people who can't use common sense. A lot of nice countries out there and if you ever get out from under your shell - you're going to have to suck it up a little and endure some cigarette/cigar/pipe smoke.

                          • Im a ex smoker (year and a half stank free ) and a ex drinker so I rarely hit up bars. In other words I could care less but the part that does bother me is the govt telling people what they can and cannot do, especially the bar owners. Complete crap....

                            • Didn't read the whole thread since I am coming in late to the game, but IMO no, it should not be banned. IMO the decision should be left to the business owner to decide whether or not they want to allow smoking.

                              • Its hard to even go into this without starting a huge rant about all the things wrong with this country, the people in it, and what they are doing to it.

The only answer to this question is both.

Yes if the owner of the establishment wants to ban smoking in his bar, and No if the owner doesn't want to ban smoking in his bar.

Anybody else who thinks differently is part of the reason this Country is on a downward spiral....
