  • South Padre Island... driving..

I haven't been there in 15 yrs and don't remember it much! The wife and I are planning on driving and spending 4 days there. Navigation says 625 miles and 11.5 hrs from Plano. Friends tell me I can easily get there within 9 hrs going 70-75?

Must see and must eat? We love seafood!

    Thanks!

Dude honestly it is a long drive...with only stopping to fill up once and driving 70-75 took me 10 hours!

I'd agree with about 10hrs being about the best time frame.

10 hrs.. dam! I knew it was a long drive but usually when I drive 10 hrs.. I'm in Colorado LOL. If we leave at 6am, we'll get there around 4 in the afternoon give or take.. spend 4 nights there and head back.

pfft. You can make it in 9-10 hours.

My dad's mom is from Weslaco/Mercedes and we make it there in roughly 9 hours.

You realize it's going to be packed with partying college kids this time of year, right? Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but it just seems like an odd time to go with the old lady.

Check on flights and car rentals, you may be better off and faster with more time on the beach. We drove it a couple of years ago and I wish we had looked into flying. OR, chill in San Antonio for a night there and back and take in the River Walk etc.
Otherwise, do you fish? If so it may be worth your while to check on fishing conditions and see if you can rent some salt water gear. Otherwise, get sandy and get local.

Dude, you honestly might have a better time at Port Aransas. The drive is shorter by a damn sight, too.

Yeah, hope you aren't going this week. I haven't been down there in years. Port Aransas has just as much beach, less asshats, and is about 2-3 hours closer.

ya we're not worried about that.. just need the time to get away and relax! We were going to go before college got out but had a clash of schedules. I'm assuming that once school is out, the place is packed every day for the summer?

We're planning on going May 9 for the week.. early planning

Flights should be cheap still. See how much it would offset having to pay for the gas to get there and back.

How the fuck are you getting there? It hasn't taken me 10-11 hrs since the 80's. I live in Keller and I get there in 8.5 hrs at 70-75 mph. take this route: I35 to 410 (410 bypasses San Antonio) to 37 to 77 to 100- bam, you're in Port Isabel. this route should only take you 8.5 hrs from North DFW to Padre.

Looking at about $600 give or take for flights..wtf! And then rent a car for a few days..looking at another $100-$120 for a cheapo econobox. Thats over 700 just to fly and rent a car minus hotel which is about $200-$300 for 4 nights bringing it to almost a grand minus eating/entertainment/souvenirs of $400 bringing it to about 1400-1500.

Going from here.. rent a car.. $140, hotel..$250 for 4 nights, gas..lets say 5 tanks at $30 each= $150... and the rest etc bringing it to around $1000 est.
