It's not illegal as long as those red and blues are turned off. You will be stopped for a suspicious vehicle though or at least I would stop you to see what's up with everything. Make sure your paperworks in order.

i dont think you would really have to worry about "impersonating" in that. lol.
Got pulled over in starsky and hutch torino with a bubble gum light on top. The bubblegum stayed up there for so long that we couldnt get it pulled off. The constable (or was it a sheriff) really wanted to write an impersonating ticket, but eventually his common sense registered after we got the light to come free.
The owners of the car said they always leave the light on top and all the police officers they saw would give a thumbs up, and ha never been hassled for the bubblegum light
What the local PD here tell you and what Sgt Billy Bob of the Mingus PD thinks is legal could be two different things. I'd at least cover up the light bar when towing through small hillbilly towns. Sure it may be completely legal by TXDOT standards but you never know what the local laws might be.
This is kinda what I said about the car. But thats with no lights on the front. The red and blues are gonna get ya.

Well, I guess I would have to argue that they aren't red or blue whan off, I would have to turn them on for you to know that. There isn't even a tint of color to them when off, they are black.
