  • Question for our resident LEO's

I'm wanting to make sure I wasn't going to wake up in lewis sterret for driving our lemons car. (See thread here http://www.dfwmustangs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7577 )

Lights are LED and black when off on the front, showing no color at all. Lights on the roof are wite when off.

It says "State Pooper" on both fenders and the trunk lid.

    TIA.

What the local PD here tell you and what Sgt Billy Bob of the Mingus PD thinks is legal could be two different things. I'd at least cover up the light bar when towing through small hillbilly towns. Sure it may be completely legal by TXDOT standards but you never know what the local laws might be.

They can blow me while towing. I'm talking about driving it.

Is the vehicle tagged and inspected for use on public roads?

I think the law states that you will be deported for using a vehicle like that on public roadways.

If it's tagged, inspected and insured... you have no problems

All the DPS cars I've worked on had a black cover on the light bar that read "OUT OF SERVICE" before we could test drive them. Obviously though if your car is projecting alternating red and blue lights from the front it's going to be illegal if you aren't driving an emergency vehicle.

                        ooooh didn't read this part...

DJ, you can't have any lights on the car uncovered and operational if they're not the headlights, tail lights, or turn signals...pretty much the lights that came with the car. (all others would make the car illegal to have on public roadways.)

It's not illegal as long as those red and blues are turned off. You will be stopped for a suspicious vehicle though or at least I would stop you to see what's up with everything. Make sure your paperworks in order.

They are off and black when off. Plus, it doesn't say police anywhere...

I think he's safe on this note. There's a long line of people who should be deported for driving worse vehicles on public roadways.

The local Sheriff's Dept. has their cars repaired by the shop my brother used to work at. They never said anything other than "don't get caught" in regards to playing with the lights on the street. LOL

The only thing that comes to mind is the guy from AZ that decked out his 05+ Mustang to look like the Decepticon cop car from Transformers. I know the cops didn't appreciate it, but I don't recall whether or not it was illegal.
