The supreme court recently ruled that the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church in protesting military funerals are protected by the Constitution. This is ABSOLUTELY the right decision. We must always protect the rights of our citizenry to freely speak out and organize. We cannot overcome the misguided members of groups like Westboro by way of censorship, nor through physical punishment (as appealing as the latter option may seem). We must overcome them by besting them at their own game and we must do it with a unified message: WE HONOR THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY.
The purpose of this page is to encourage organization of support rallies at the funerals of the men and women who gave their lives for our country - particularly those that are being targeted by groups such as the Westboro Baptist Church.
These rallies ought not be a forum to debate the church on the validity or morality of their foolish arguments; these rallies are to show solidarity with our troops and their families. These meetings will ideally ignore the Westboro fanatics all together and simply overwhelm their hatred with love and reverence for the departed and the freedoms which they fought to protect.
PLEASE: feel free and encouraged to use this group to discuss ways in which we can support organization to wash away (H.O.S.E., if you will) the hurtful and confused rhetoric of the Westboro protesters. We are not here to protest - we are here to support.
form your own groups, find friends who agree - don't even bother getting angry at the anti-gay protesters; they're not even worth it - instead, let's help console the grieving families of our protectors by outshining the garbage with real patriotic thankfulness.
