Barcelona in May

I may have planned out the perfect vacation by accident. This May my wife and I are meeting in Miami and boarding the Norwegian Epic for an 11 night cruise from Miami to Barcelona; May 7 to May 18. We got a Balcony room on deck 12 for $1,550 after taxes, insurance, port fees and minus a $250 credit we have with Norwiegen. The trip is so cheap because it only ports two places; Portugal and Barcelona.

Once we hit Barcelona we are staying for 5 days to do some site seeing. While surfing the web I found that we will be there for FORUMULA 1 GRAND MOTHAFUCKIN PRIX. I just hope we can find a hotel.

I'll probably be going to Manchester England for a week in May, no F1 or cruise liners for me though. I've spent enough time on ships in the Atlantic.

7+ months on the USS Kearsarge LHD3. A luxury cruise liner is a night and day difference. lol

We looked at doing northern Europe but the air fare was going to kill the budget and the cruises were twice as much.

Barcelona is badass from the pics I have seen. Alot of history and mixed culture there.

I have already been once when I was a young Marine back in 1997. We drank and chased bitches mostly but I did get to see a bull fight. This trip will be more for me introduce my wife to the history and architecture. I think they have banned bull fights now.

The cruise is a 11 night transatlantic repositioning cruise from Miami to Barcelona. I am flying from Dubai to Miami on May 6th and my wife is flying from Dallas to meet me there. She will fly back from Barcelona to Dallas on the 22nd and I will stay an extra day to take in the race. On the 23rd I fly back to Dubai then charter into Afghanistan a few days later.

I am not sure I can afford a room overlooking the circuit. But I plan on trying to meet some people that can hook me up with a view. Looking at the map the race is 20+ miles northeast of the port of Barcelona.

Well since my discovery of my visit being at the same time of the Grand Prix I have done some more research.

The race is held on the Catalonia Circuit, so it is a track and not city streets. Fine with me.

All the passes I am finding are for the three days of events. Saturday is 40 laps and Sunday is only 18 and Sunday is the day I would go. There is also a Porsche cup race you can stay and watch also. My wife is fine with me staying the extra day as long as I am not trying to drag her out there on Saturday for the race or Friday for the Paddock tour. lol

I have a feeling the race and extra night at the hotel is going to run me an extra $700 on top of the trip.

Searching a hotel in Barcelona itself right now. There are several with a view of Cathedral Square and very close to the sights. Most of the reviews I am reading are warning; don't expect PLUSH for your money.

The tours are cheeeeeeeap.

The Epic is a new ship that has been in the fleet for less than a year. It boasts the largest cruise ship casino, 265 sqft balcony rooms, an ice bar, the Blue Man group and tons more.

Get that room ASAP though. My bets are that you'll be squatting some dive if you're not careful.

I would love to take that cruise too. In fact, Mary & I were just "dreaming" about booking another cruise before I get hooked back in to the grind. I even thought about a Norwegian cruise so we could try a different one, other than Carnival. We both want to do Rome and surrounding area.

Also, I thought you couldn't come back to the US for a while, has that changed?

I am trying as hard as I can, it is just hard to find a good hotel for a good price in a good location.
