you can use it like a regular touch keyboard even when swype is enabled
once you get used to it, it's faster... you swype a word, if it gets the right word, you just swype the next one, and it will automatically put the space between the words.
if it's at the top of the suggestions list, you just start swyping the next word, and it will automatically put the space.
it takes a bit of getting used to, but like I said, after YEARS with physical keyboards and an intense hatred for touch keyboards, I think I'm converted.

Yeah, I like the functionality but the keys are not in the same spots as the regular one. I might get used to it but it will take time and patience. Two things I do not have. Lol

strange... that would drive me nuts if they "remixed" the letter locations
letters are in the same place, but the key for symbols or uppercase isn't necessarily in the same spot.
my phone didn't come with swype, and when I side-loaded it I found out that it doesn't support the voice-to-text (stock input has it - the microphone) I use while driving... so i switched back. I do like it, but hated changing back and forth every time I want to dictate instead of type.

oh, with symbols, you just hold down the button longer and it will put the symbol up. no need to go to the symbol screen...
I also haven't ever used the touch keyboard in landscape on this phone, so I'm not used to it. Using swype is a lot faster for me with the phone vertical, so I've only really used it that way.
The same way you set up swype. Push swype settings and then push tutorial. It will give you two options for input method. Of course you don't want swype so choose the other and voila!! Then once youre finished take an updated cleavage picture for my Evo's background.
