Why do I have to keep a phone line connected to my receiver?

Certain features of your DISH receiver require connection over your phone line, plus, you save $5 a month on all dual tuner receivers. But don't worry, your receivers will never interfere with your calls, DSL, or home security and you'll never be billed for any additional phone service.

Remember, if you don't have your DISH DVR receiver hooked up to either a telephone line or Ethernet, you will get a $5 fee tacked on to your normal bill. Go into the System Set Up menu and hit the Diagnostics tab. Run the connection test and see if it passes or fails.

They tried to charge us for it. I called and explained that we have no home phone. She gave me the option of paying $5 for not having phone or pay $5 and get local channels. So I took the local channel option (duh)... Then a year later they raised their rates $5 but locals became free. They forgot to add the $5 phone charge back on to my bill.

I can read a bill and it was the programming package that increased. I just hate when they don't notify you in advance so that you can record it right in the checkbook ( i have automatic debit).

You had to at the time to get whatever the rate was. It is one less bill for me to worry about.

I noticed DirecTV went up $5 this month as well... I think someone already said that though..
