Yeah uhh that is not standard practice anywhere...........
Yeah well you don't live in Plano either do you? And I'm assuming you've never been pulled over by DPS as well? Oh thats right you're part of the brotherhood, all you clowns have to do is pull your badge for as free ride.
You're obviously an idiot and your extensive poor driving habits have obviously jaded you toward police. "Stop breaking the law, asshole."
I can drive my car anyway I want to, and I always pay my tickets too. You don't know me or my life. So before YOU start running your pea brain head about shit you don't know anything about. And fuck that perp, he desereves what he got, a bullet to the head, but holy fuck balls don't shoot the man in front it his kids, thats just fucking barbaric.
You damn well know he is supposed to get the guy out of the car before he asks for DL/I and then run his DL. Everytime I get pulled over im asked to get out of the car. AND NO ONE ON THIS ENTIRE FUCKING SITE HAS BEEN PULLED OVER MORE THAN ME!
Especially if he saw the kids in the back seat, thats fucking bullshit to shoot the man in front of his kids and you know it Matt, you're a father too.

I don't condone shooting anyone in front of their kids. It could have been handled differently....... should have told the guy to call someone to come and get them or give him the option to call someone.

#1) Quit armchair qb-ing this thing. You're not a cop, and no matter how long you "if" and "but" this, it won't change the outcome.
#2) There was a passenger in the car...he could have driven the kids home. No need to call anyone, "a man was in the front passenger seat and that three children were in the back seat." http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/03...th-police.html
#3) Maybe he SHOULD HAVE asked the guy to step out of the car, but do you really think that would have worked? When told he was under arrest, his first thought was to lock the door and roll the window up, and drive off. The fact that a cop was hanging from his SUV didn't slow him down, either. Yeah, he probably woulda stepped right out of the car, peacefully...
#4) Under normal circumstances, yes, it's complete BS to shoot a man in front of his kids. When you're being drug down the street by an SUV? Not so much. What do you think was going to happen next? The cop gains footing on the running boards and the guy slows down, apologizes, bakes the cop some cookies and turns himself in?
Quit making excuses for scumbag pieces of shit. Excessive force? Really? The criminal's plan obviously wasn't working, and kept driving after the cop points a gun at him and repeatedly says to stop the car (in which his arm is still trapped). Is it so far-fetched to think the lowlife would have swerved to make him fall and get drug until his arm came loose (or let loose), or that he would have run him into a barrier, or anything else that endangers his life? He's already proven that he'll drag the guy down the street once. The LEO's actions were warranted and justified. END OF STORY.
There is all kinds of "what if" and "armchair quarterbacking", but as long as it's procedurally and legally sound, then I'm good with it.
Not saying that's how I would have handled it, but it takes YEARS of training and maturity to make infallible split second decisions.

Not that I would think less of him if he was trying to grab the steering wheel or the keys, but why would he lie and say his arm was trapped if it in fact wasn't? In your opinion what does he really have to gain by lying about that?
He may have a lot to gain by lying, do you think that cops don't lie? If he's not lying, he did what needed to be done. Almost forgot FTP
I would be willing to bet the kids already hated the police. One of my friends was on a traffic stop one time and the same thing happened to him except the driving off part. He told the guy he had warrants and the guy said I am not going to jail and started rolling up the window. It actually pinned his arm really good and he had to knock out the glass to get his arm loose and then remove the guy from the car. He had a nice deep bruise in his arm. What is sad is that all my assistant chief at the time was concerned with was my friend calling the guy a MF as they got him out.
I would think he would be thankful he called him a MF'er instead of something much worse and/or more offensive.
