I've finally got a decent upgrade option. I'm with AT&T. Looking for reviews. I can get an Iphone4 cosmetic blem for $100. I don't necessarily need all of the doo dads, but having a built in planner with alerts would be nice. Post up what you have and what you like/dislike about it

I've got a Samsung Captivate (ATT's name for the Galaxy S). I like the phone just fine; I just don't like the ATT service. Once my contract is up, I guess I'll bite the bullet and just go back to Verizon and pay a little more per month for a network that doesn't drop calls every other time I'm on the phone. How do we forget ourselves? You asked...so here goes!
I had an iPhone 3GS for about a year and a half...chose not to upgrade b/c I just really liked the thing. The speed was good, reception decent, tons of available apps (many that are free), and I actually found mine to be pretty durable too...was dropped a few times and only used a gel case and screen protector....never a problem.
I switched to a new Windows Phone 7 a couple months ago...the only reason was b/c my company is trying to promote them, and they are also trying to move employees off of Apple, so they gave me one. I chose the Samsung Focus. What I like about it....
- the screen is badass...much bigger than my iPhone and also clearer/better resolution.
- The battery life is outstanding
- Uses Zune software for sync and marketplace (miles ahead of iTunes)
- Internet Explorer is miles ahead of crappy-assed Safari on Apple (but there are some decent others you can get for the Apple).
- The Office apps are standard installed and make my life a lot easier....especially the ability to sync and use One-Note.
- The WP7 OS...it took some getting used to, but I like it now...it integrates all of your contacts and content (like pics) from Live, Skydrive, Outlook, Facebook, etc. and consolidates into a single app/interface...very cool look and feel but took some cleaning up on setup too.
- Don't have to waste memory storing pics b/c they are easily accesible from your Skydrive, FB, etc. (all automatically integrated into your pics section)
- Included some really good quality earbuds.
- Alarm interface...not a big deal but I like it better than iPhone...just has more flexibility with progressive volume, length of snooze, etc.
What I don't like about it:
- Only 8gb standard storage when most other WP7 phones are coming 12-16gb standard. However you can add memory via micro SD...but it becomes proprietarty to that phone once installed.
- Typing/texting - I have big fingers and its just a bitch on this phone...the only plus is that it makes multiple word/correction suggestions for each word as opposed to just replacing the word however it pleases (like the iPhone). But still for some reason I typed better on the iPhone screen...even with it being smaller (maybe just that I used it longer?).
- No ability to add custom ring tones/sounds. (Rumored to be fixed in SP1)
- No ability to copy/paste - confirmed to be fixed in SP1.
- Not as many free apps as Apple
- Apps are more expensive than Apple
- Micro USB for charging/sync - probably just me, but I like the iPhone plug more...it's easier to handle overall.
- Using it with Microsoft Sync in my truck - this part is laughable to me...MS phone doesn't work as well on a MS audio system as an Apple phone! My iPhone had less connection issues and seemed to have better audio quality over Sync. However, there is one plus with the WP7...the Sync system in my truck will also read text messages to me on the WP7, where the iPhone would not. The issues here may not be with WP7, but the actual Samsung phone itself too.
Overall I'd recommend a WP7, but you'll have to decide which brand device best fits your needs (Dell is making a pretty badass one)...one like my Focus is great for watching video content. However, I almost wish I had gone with something like the LG b/c it has a real keyboard that pops out of the side.70' Chevelle RagTop

Lyn got the LG Windows 7 phone with the slideout KB because she thought the on screen KB would suck. Well, after 2 weeks she traded it in on the Samsung Focus and so far seems to be doing pretty well with it.
The LG KB was wearing down the paint on the keys from sliding it open/closed. Other than that, it's a tad bulky, but all sliders are.
Oh yeah, I copy/pasted this from my iPhone, just because I can...Last edited by yellowstang; 02-28-2011, 05:26 PM.
