It’s a racket. Plain and simple.

Not that it's needed right now, but this is why I'm super glad my parents have everything in a trust - when that day comes there's no need for probate, etc.

Morbid as it may be, I guess it's a blessing in disguise that "dad" disowned me. He may have some assets when he passes, but I'm certain he's willed everything to his new wife and her fam.

Thanks everyone for the support. This has been a tougher endeavor than I have even imagined.

It sounds like I need to hire a probate lawyer that my brother and I can use in Texas.

I have never hired a lawyer before or even have any idea where to start. Any one have any recommendations on how to do that process or a lawyer they recommend? I figured I was just going to google probate lawyer in the dfw area and start with that. YIKES! This seems to be a stressful process to deal with all this.

          Thanks
          Jonathan

What county was she in? I know you said D/FW, but if she was in Kaufman county I used Jon Burt when my parents passed and it was an easy process.

Ex husband as the TRS beneficiary might be a problem.... I've dealt with them (TRS) before for my Mom and (if you can get somebody on the phone) they were pretty helpful.

Sorry to hear of your Mom's passing.

if her pension is her only asset you have no need for an attorney . surviving spouse is the heir and only if it was set up upon retirement . my bride had to do all this before she retired .
